THE REWILDING by Donna M Cameron

I read this quite a while ago, actually, but my travels got in the way of writing about it. Donna M Cameron won a KSP Fellowship for the manuscript, and rightly so; the novel is beautiful.

Goodbye, Sydney, city of mirrors, beautiful whore who has sucked him dry.

The subject matter lends itself to something grim but, with a fabulous sense of humour and a light touch, Cameron ensures ‘The Rewilding’ is anything but.

It’s the middle of the week, on an isolated beach blocked on both sides by headlands with no houses in view, so no witnesses. Except him: collateral damage in a crumpled suit.

Sometimes lyrical and meandering, often crammed with edge-of-the-world tension, a perfect balance.
